Launched in conjunction with India's 75th Independence Day, Manthan is a digital marketplace designed to foster collaboration and accelerate innovation. This digital marketplace serves as a hub for innovators, philanthropists, and academic institutions, facilitating the creation of a vibrant ecosystem where ideas can be transformed into action.
Aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, India's Manthan platform has adopted a holistic approach to driving innovation. By focusing on key sectors such as governance, international partnerships, education, and women in STEM, Manthan aims to address pressing societal challenges. The platform has also prioritized critical areas like defence, agriculture, and healthcare, with a particular emphasis on health innovations, such as disease surveillance, vaccination, and data analytics, in line with the 'One Health' approach.
Rather than isolated domains, the sectors encompassed by Manthan are intricately interconnected, forming a cohesive pathway towards tangible social transformation. Spanning a diverse range of fields, including marine technology, green hydrogen, future mobility, product design, electronics, semiconductors, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and emerging technologies, Manthan offers a comprehensive view of the opportunities and challenges at the forefront of innovation.

A second, paradoxical challenge emerged: how to measure success. Traditional key performance indicators evolved. For some projects, success was defined by signing memoranda of understanding or securing funding. For research initiatives, success meant translating ideas into usable technologies. This necessitated a diversification of measurement tools and a more patient approach to assessing outcomes, especially considering that meaningful social impact is seldom achieved overnight.
Significant efforts have been made to overcome the complexities inherent in international cooperation. Balancing funding, expertise, and achieving cross-border successes—such as capacity building, infrastructure development, and empowering grants—has required substantial investments of time and resources.
Since its inception, Manthan has fostered over 359 successful collaborations, resulting in 286 impactful projects. Today, the platform boasts a vibrant community of over 62,000 users, 19,907 NGOs, and 286 organizations that have endorsed the platform's initiatives. With the support of 1,625 research institutions and the organization of 52 events and exhibitions, Manthan has become a thriving hub for innovation. Through strategic partnerships with the government, the platform has secured over $97 million in funding for emerging technologies, underscoring its significant contributions to the field.
